One day itinerary in Owen County:
- Owen County has some of the finest sporting clays facilities in the nation with 600 acres of upland fields and woodlands. Elk Creek Hunt Club & Sporting Clays Resort is open to the public, hosts many national events and offers hunting, European Tower shoots and a fully-stocked pro shop. Elk Creek has a 5,000 square foot clubhouse with six rooms available for lodging and a conference center. The resort is located at the intersection of Highway 227 and Highway 330. 502-484-4569
- Perry Park Golf Course features an 18-hole golf course, driving range, putting green, pro shop, and club house and snack shop. Also, overnight accommodations are available with a restaurant, swimming pool and tennis courts on site. Perry Park is located on Highway 355. 502-484-5776
- Fairway Golf Course is located off Highway 227 in Wheatley. The England family runs the course, which features a driving range, a putting green, an 18-hole course, a pro shop and a restaurant. Fairway also hosts various tournaments and golf scrambles throughout the year. 502-463-2338
- There are several get-away spots in Owen County which offers me a chance to sit back and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings while fishing or boating. Eagle Valley Recreation Area is located where Eagle Creek and the Kentucky River come together. Eagle Creek features fishing, boating, camping and swimming. Elmer Davis Lake, located two miles south of Owenton, is a 140-acre public lake which offers excellent bass fishing.
- Kleber Wildlife Management Area, which is managed by the Department of Fish and Wildlife, features about 2,200 acres of land set aside for habitat improvement. Kleber is open to the public and features walking trails, hunting, a two-acre fishing lake and a shooting range.
- Boating is a pleasure since Owen County is bounded on the west by the Kentucky River and on the north by Eagle Creek. Boating ramps are available along the Kentucky River.
- The Owen County Historical Society Museum is located at 206 North Main Street in Owenton. The genealogical and history records of the society are maintained at the public library for research during regular library hours.
- Owen County is also known as a source of fine antique pieces. Spend a day antiquing at local establishments, the annual Highway 127 Yard Sale or various auctions. Our crafters carry traditional skills in to the future with basket making, quilting, pottery, soap making, woodworking, needlework, jewelry making, and stain glass. Hand letterpress printing is another unique feature of our area.
- Kentucky Jamboree a musical experience with the Robinson Family, an old-fashioned family resort is located on Highway 3103, just nine miles off Interstate 75, on over 300 acres including a five-acre lake fully stocked. Camping is available with hook-ups. Saturday night performances in a 6,700 square foot concert hall for fist class family entertainment. Lots of fund for everyone in the family. 502-484-3233
- When it comes to eating and shopping in Owen County, several unique opportunities exist. There are many small shops scattered around Owenton and the county offering a variety of items. Downtown Owenton features everything form one-of-a-kind works of art to hardware. Dine in our local family restaurant "The Smith House" which features fresh homemade pies daily.
